Who is the subject?
People and their unique stories
Telling stories about people is one of the privileges of being a journalist. It firstly requires the ability to identify interesting subjects and ask them candidly about their inspirations and motivations, and secondly to weave those sometimes unrelated thoughts and ideas into a coherent narrative.
A well researched and written profile article can be illuminating to the subject, as well as to readers.
Interviewees sometimes say that the process of reflecting on their achievements and disappointments - combined with the journalist's insight and observations - enables them to see their journey in a new light.
